How do I get there?

Most people fly to Belize City (Phillip Goldson Airport) where we will transport you north, 1.5 hours to Corozal.  However, Corozal has its own airport as well and you can get another flight from Belize City to Corozal (30 minutes total flight as it will first fly to San Pedo (15 minute flight) and then on to Corozal (another 15 minutes).  The Corozal airport is 10 minutes away.

What language do the Belizeans speak?

Belize’s national language is English so nearly everyone speaks some variation of English.

Can I use US dollars and my bank debit card in Belize?

YES! US dollars are welcome everywhere in Belize and most transactions are in cash (USD or BZD). The exchange rate is simple 2:1 ($1 USD = $2 BZD). There are also ATMs available and places where you can cash a check for Belize dollars.  Most restaurants and bigger stores will accept your bank debit card for a minimum transaction of $20; however, most transactions are made with cash.

Can I book a massage, pedi/manicure?

How safe is Belize and specifically Corozal?

Starting with the WARNING: Southern Belize City has gang and drug territorial issues and is NOT where you want to find yourself (think Detroit, MI).  However, I have traveled to many other areas of Belize and have never felt in danger in any place I have been.  I understand the islands have more petty crime as there are more tourists who flash money and belongings … and drink … leaving themselves open as targets.  However, here in Corozal District, I feel welcomed and have always been treated with kindness and respect by the locals.  I often even leave my car running when I go into the store and have no concerns walking alone in the town park at night.  The biggest hurdle some visitors must get over is the stereotype that poverty = crime.  That is not the experience we have had here in Corozal.  Our overall safety advice is, do not go to any of the local bars at night as most crimes in Corozal happen when people are drinking (theft, assault, etc.) … AND do not wear expensive jewelry, expensive clothing, or flash cash … try to blend in with the very diverse population and always be aware of your surroundings.
